Westside Classic WIAA District 3-4 Preview

Westside Classic - November 2, 2024

Chambers Creek Regional Park - University Park, WA


Washington athletes compete on Saturday to qualify for the Washington State Meet held the following Saturday in Pasco, WA. Here is a preview of the meet.


1A

Natalie Oathout of Klahowya

Klahowya girls look like the favorites to qualify for State in the 1A level thanks to strong cast of runners including Natalie Oathout and Thyme Gruber. Courtney Van Hise of Bellevue Christian and Kyrstin Timothy of Cascade Christian are other race favorites.


Will Carroll of Annie Wright

Will Carroll of Annie Wright won this race last year and will be challenged this year by Josh Healey of Vashon Island, Justyn Peterhans of Annie Wright and Tyler Larson of Klahowya. Vashon Island looks to be the 1A favorite to qualify for State.


2A

Mairin O'Brien of Bainbridge

The first race of the day is the girls 2A race. Bainbridge girls look to be the favorite to qualify to State and are led by Mairin O'Brien, Evelyn Shutske and Sabine Hartenstine. Grace Coonrod of Eatonville and Susanna Seefeldt of Steilacoom will challenge individually with the Bainbridge girls.


Ryan Dodge of Bainbridge

Like the 2A girls, Bainbridge boys are the favorites to qualify to State due to front runners Ben Crandall, Ryan Dodge and Ignacio Llorens. Dallin Anderson of Bremerton and Noah Westlund of Fife are other strong 2A runners.


3A

Elektra Higgins of Peninsula

Elektra Higgins of Peninsula won this event last year and looks to repeat. Other notable athletes in the 3A division include Taylor Sletner and Lejla Carlsson of Gig Harbor, Taylor Palmer and Clare Herring of Central Kitsap. Gig Harbor and Central Kitsap girls look to be the class of the field.


Mana Voss of Central Kitsap

Mana Voss of Central Kitsap is the individual favorite for the boys 3A division. He will have company with teammate Michael Vlach, Jax Corvin and Damien Sledd of Lakes, Joey Campbell and Gavin McKeegan of Gig Harbor. Like the girls 3A race, Central Kitsap and Gig Harbor boys look to qualify for State.


4A

Latham West of Bonney Lake

Lathan West of Bonney Lake finished second last year in the 3A race at the Westside Classic and now moves to the 4A division. West will have challengers in the 4A race including Eliisa Marshall of Camas, Daphne Evenson of Skyview, Lauren Laws of South Kitsap and Ella Koch of Union. Camas and Curtis girls hope to punch their team ticket to State on Saturday.


Cooper Boyle of Tahoma

Cooper Boyle of Tahoma won this race last year and John Payne Invitational in October at Chambers Creek and is the favorite on Saturday. Pushing Boyle in the 4A boys race will be Isaac Benjamin of South Kitsap, Cohen Butler of Camas and Dima Serafimovici of Curtis. Curtis looks to qualify on Saturday to State with Camas and South Kitsap also hoping to make it to State too.
