Below are some of the top athletes in the distance races in Washington, Oregon and California:
Washington State Meet - May 29 - 31
Yakima & Tacoma, WA
800 Meters

Some of the top female 800 meter runners to watch at this weekend's Washington State Meet include freshman Ciana Johnson of Ballard and she will face Ginger Oberg of Roosevelt in the 3A division. Alexa Matora of Lake Washington and Sally Roos of Eastlake will be the challengers in the 4A division. In Yakima Josie McLaughlin of Saint George's School has run 2:09.09 and is one of the top times in the state of Washington regardless of class size.
Owen Powell of Mercer Island has a chance to conclude his high school career in a championship fashion in the 3A division. Kai Yoder of Snohomish and Ryan Khoury of Stanwood will challenge Powell in the 3A division. In Yakima Duncan Frisbie-Smith of Bush and Shawn Jones of Saint George's School will shine.
1600 Meters

The first distance race of the Washington State Meet will be the 1600 on Thursday. Sophia and Victoria Rodriguez of Mercer Island will be the stars of the 3A division and veteran racers Alexa Matora of Lake Washington, Sally Roos of Eastlake and Daphne Evenson of Skyview will highlight the 4A division.
Owen Powell of Mercer Island has the potential to set the state meet record in the 1600. Kade Brownell and Parker Westerman of Mount Spokane and Vincent Recupero have the ability to run fast times too. Ezra Teeples of Kamiakin can possibly lead the 4A boys and Duncan Frisbee-Smith of Bush will set the standard in the 1A division.
3200

Sophia Rodriguez of Mercer Island should win the 3A 3200. The race to watch is the competitive 4A race with Lathan West of Bonney Lake, Hailey and Aleeya Cossey of Mt Si and Selena Barngerter of Jackson having similar season bests.
Kade Brownell of Mt Spokane, Max Billet of Shoreline and Vincent Recupero of Bishop Blanchet have both broken the nine minute barrier in the 3A division as has Cooper Boyle of Tahoma and Isaac Benjamin of South Kitsap in the 4A division.
Oregon State Meet - May 29 - 31

800

The Lincoln duo of Sophia Malinoski and Ellery Lincoln will lead the 6A girls with freshman Eleanor Wyatt of West Linn will gain valuable experience in the 6A race. Friday night will see Sophie Schoolmeester of Banks and Averie Peterson of Santiam try to win state titles.
Josiah Tostenson of Crater has won track state championships that date from his freshman season and leads the 5A division. Dane Giessler of Caldera won the 5A division last year and Maxwell Miracle of Crater will contend in the 5A division too. Body Lutes of Marshfield will lead the 4A division and Jackson Welsh of Jesuit is the top seed in the 6A division.
1500

Ellery Lincoln of Lincoln won the 6A division 1500 last year but will be pushed by her teammate Sophie Malinoski, Chloe Huyler of Lakeridge and Eleanor Wyatt of West Linn. Sophie Schoolmeester of Banks is the class of the 3A division.
Josiah Tostenson and Tayvon Kitchen of Crater have both broken four minutes in the mile this year and will race each other in the 5A division. The 6A division will be a close battle between Kellen Williams of Jesuit, Dylan Weniger of Sherwood and Brennan McEwen of Franklin.
3000

Chloe Huyler of Lakeridge should win the 6A division with her sister Hannah and Nelida Delgas of North Salem being other contenders. Emily Wisniewski of Crescent Valley will cap a sensational high school career this weekend. She has won the 3000 in her previous three seasons. Jaya Simmons of Valley Catholic will race on Thursday night in the 3A race.
Tayvon Kitchen of Crater has a chance to set the meet record in the 3000 and the 6A boys has defending champion Malachi Schoenherr of Sheldon, Dylan Weniger of Sherwood, Sawyer Marquis of Forest Grove and Zafer Courcelle and Brennan McEwen of Franklin running similar seasonal bests.
California State Meet - May 30 & 31

800

Makenna Herbst of Carlsbad finished second in this event last year and has a personal best four seconds faster than the rest of the field. Anne Elise Packard of JSerra, freshman Grace Smith of Claremont, Kylie Hoornaert of Prospect and another freshman Josie Hill of Technology are will compete in the 800.
If the weather cooperates, it is possible that several athletes will break 1:50 in the 800 including Josiah Bowman of Sage Creek, Wyland Obando of LB Wilson, Alden Morales of JSerra, Lucas Alberts of Jesuit and Beckett Sullivan of Riverside Poly.
1600

Chiara Dailey of La Jolla has raced an outstanding season and has the top seed time in the 1600 but she will have company with Hanne Thomsen of Montgomery, Jordin Lieberman of Murrieta Valley, Braelyn Combe of Santiago (Corona) and Kinga Czajkowska of Palo Alto also having great seasons.
The top five runners in the 1600 have run 4:06 or faster like valley stars Conor Lott of Clovis North and Luke Sanders of Buchanan. Benjamin Bouie of Crystal Springs Uplands, Aydon Stefanopoulos of Los Gatos and Aidan Antonio of Woodbridge are other contenders.
3200

Hanne Thomsen of Montgomery, Rylee Blade of Santiago (Corona) and Jaelyn Williams of Eastlake have all won the 3200 state title in previous years. Will one of those girls get a second title or will Chiara Dailey of La Jolla or Holly Barker of Trabuco Hills get their first title?
Evan Noonan of Dana Hills won this event last year and he has plenty of competition with Yosef Berhan of Piedmont, Landon Pretre of Menlo Schools, Eli Fitchen-Young of Santa Cruz and Tyler Daillak of Paso Robles.
4 X 800

Claremont, Clovis North, Buchanan, Santiago (Corona) and JSerra girls enter the 4 X 800 with top seed times. In the boys the Southern Section leads the list with Mira Costa, Oaks Christian, JSerra and LB Wilson. Jesuit and Buchanan will try to break up the Southern Section boys.
