UW Preview - January 16-17, 2026
Dempsey Indoor - Seattle, WA
University of Washington hosts the first of three indoor meets this weekend called the UW Preview. The two day meet provides many opportunities for distance runners. Here is a preview of the meet.

Women

Maggi Congdon of Swoosh TC is scheduled to race both the 800 and mile on Saturday. Congdon made the US team last summer in Tokyo in the 800 and qualified for the semi-finals in Tokyo. Ellie Baker of Great Britain is in the 800 and represented her country in the 2022 World Championships in Eugene.

Juliette Whittaker of Stanford is in the 1000 meters. Whittaker qualified for the 800 meter final at the Paris Olympics. Other athletes in the 1000 are Christina Aragon of Nike, Rosemary Longisa of Washington State, who the WCC Cross County Championship in October, Chloe Foerster of Washington and Claire Yerby.

The mile is always a highlight at the Dempsey and competitors include former NAU athlete Alexandra Carlson of Adidas, Sophia Kennedy of Stanford, Abby Nichols of Union Athletics, Mia Cochran and Julia David-Smith of Washington and Kristie Schoffield of Brooks Beasts.

Northwestern women's team had a great cross country season last fall and Anna Hightower, Maddy Whitman, Ava Criniti and Jacqueline Holman will represent the Wildcats of Northwestern. Hanne Thomsen of Stanford, who had a decorated high school career in California, is entered in the 3000. High school athletes Sophia Rodriguez of Mercer Island and Abigail Hennessey of Westford Academy (MA) are also entered in the 3000.
Men

Owen Powell of Washington makes his Husky debut in the 1000 meter race. Powell broke the fabled four-minute mile barrier as a high school athlete at Mercer Island last year at the Dempsey. Joe Waskom of Adidas and Sam Ellis of On are the top entries in the 1000.

Cam Myers of Nike is the big name in the men's mile. Myers holds the indoor and outdoor mile record for Australia and is only nineteen years old! Sam Prakel of Adidas and Brannon Kidder of Beasts Beasts are the other pros in the Mile. Josiah Tostenson of Washington ran fast times on the Dempsey track last year for Crater and will represent the Huskies for the first time at the Dempsey. Tostenson's teammates of Reuben Reina, Evan Jenkins, Thomas Diamond and Jamar Distel will also be in the mile. University of Portland have a pair runners to watch in Mark Milner and Jonas Price.

Evans Kurui of Washington is one of the stars in the 3000. Kurui was runner-up in the WCC Championship and NCAA West Regional. Leo Young of Stanford is coming off an outstanding cross country season where he qualified as an individual at the NCAA XC Championship. Professional Waleed Sulliman is also entered in the 3000. Evan Noonan of Stanford makes his Dempsey debut. Noonan won multiple high school cross country titles in California.
