OSAA State Meet - November 7
Lane Community College - Eugene, OR
Saturday is the state meet for Oregon at Lane Community College. Here is a preview of each race.
Boys 2A/1A 10:00
The boys 2A/1A start of the 2024 state meet and the individuals to watch are Wyatt Jacobson of Knappa, top returner from last year's 2A/1A race, Curtiss Heier of Illinois Valley and Nathanael O'Reilly of Union. Last year Union narrowly won the 2A/1A meet last year over Knappa and this year it will be close between those two schools.
Girls 3A/2A/1A 10:35
Jaya Simmons of Valley Catholic won this race last year and Daisy Lalonde of East Linn Christian won the race two years ago and are back this year. Lauren Tittel of OES is another athlete who can win the 3A/2A/1A title. Enterprise and OES look to be the favorites in the team competition.
Boys 3A 11:10
Clayton Wilson of Siuslaw and Ronan Gantzos of OES are contenders to the 3A individual title and Jett Leavitt of Enterprise finished second in this race last year. The team competition could be a battle between Banks and Siuslaw.
Girls 4A 11:45
Cecilia Villagomez Edvalson of La Grande won this race last year and her teammate Brooke Perry is another individual threat. Adele Beckstead of Philomath, Hallie Pyfer of Klamath Union and Anika Jenson of Molalla are other individuals to watch. The team battle will be fun to watch between Philomath and Klamath Union
Boys 4A 12:20
Carter Bengston of Cottage Grove is the defending 4A champion and hope to defend his title. Conor Thompson of Marist and Jaxson Stovall of Marshfield are other individual favorites. Newport boys were 4A champions last year and will be challenged by Crook County and The Dalles.
Girls 5A 1:45
Emily Wisniewski of Crescent Valley has won this event three times and is looking for a career sweep of the 5A girls. Maddie Carney of Caldera and Sophia Capozzi of Summit look to be the future of 5A. The team race will be close between Crater, Summit, Crescent Valley and Caldera. Last year Summit girls won their fifteenth consecutive team title.
Boys 5A 2:20
Josiah Tostenson of Crater has won big California races at Woodbridge and Clovis and teammate Tayvon Kitchen won this race next year. The 5A race features other strong runners in Hayden Boaz of Summit, Ty Cirino of Central and Mason Morical of Caldera. Crater boys are the favorites with Summit and Corvallis looking to make the podium.
Girls 6A 2:55
Chloe Huyler of Lakeridge and Nelida Dalgas of North Salem will be the ones to watch in the 6A girls race. Chloe's twin sister Hannah Huyler of Lakeridge and Elyse Henriksen of Lincoln are also contenders.
Jesuit and Lincoln battled for last year's title with Jesuit winning and those two schools will battle again.
Boys 6A 3:30
The individual boys race in the 6A is wide open with Dylan Weniger of Sherwood, Malachi Schoenherr of Sheldon, Zafer Courcelle and Brennan McEwen of Franklin and Sawyer Marquis of Forest Grove looking to win the 6A race. Jesuit boys are the favorites in the 6A race with Ida B Wells and Central Catholic hoping to make the podium.
