University of Oregon is hosting the Big Ten Track and Field Championships for the first time starting on Friday and ending on Sunday afternoon. Here is a look at the distance events.


Friday


Diana Cherotich of Oregon
Diana Cherotich of Oregon

Freshman Diana Cherotich of Oregon makes her home debut on Friday night in the 10,000 and has the top seed in the event. Juliet Cherubet of Oregon and Florence Caron of Penn State should keep pace with Cherotich. In the men's 10,000, Bob Liking of Wisconsin is one of the most decorated distance runners in the Big Ten with four Big Ten Cross Country individual championships. Liking has the top seed in the 10,000 with Evan Jenkins and Tyrone Gorze of Washington, Aiden Smith of Oregon and teammate Johnny Livingston of Wisconsin hoping to contend.


Saturday

The 3000 steeplechase will be a final on Saturday and Katelyn Stewart-Barnes of Michigan State is the favorite. If the race is a strategic race, Minnesota's Zoie Dundon and Isabelle Schmitz will be in the mix. Oregon's Benjamin Balazs has the fastest time in the steeplechase, but he will be challenged Nick Gilles of Wisconsin, Luke Knepp of Iowa, Caleb Jarema of Michigan and Caleb Williams of Purdue.


Sunday

The finale looks to be a preview of the NCAA finals that will be back in Eugene in June. Silan Ayyildiz and Mia Barnes of Oregon create a one-two punch in the 1500 and Sophie O'Sullivan of Washington has Olympic experience. Adam Spencer of Wisconsin also has Olympic experience and has the fastest time in the 1500. Nathan Green of Washington has won the 1500 at the NCAA championship. Simeon Birnbaum of Oregon won an impressive 1500 last Friday against pros.


Chloe Foerster of Washington

Chloe Foerster of Washington is one of the top 800 meter (and 1500 meter) runners this collegiate season. Klaudia Kazimierska of Oregon is another athlete with Olympic experience from the Paris Games. Handal Roban of Penn State has the second fastest 800 time in the 2025 outdoor season. Kyle Reinheimer of Washington has also put together a great indoor and outdoor season in the 800.

The women's 5000 looks to be.a repeat of Friday's 10.000 with favorites Diana Cherotich and Juliet Cherubet of Oregon and Florence Caron of Penn State returning. Bob Liking of Wisconsin hopes to add another Big Ten win in the 10,000 with teammate Matan Irvi and Evan Jenkins of Washington hoping to be in the mix.
