The largest cross country meet in the US with over 19,000 athletes will be competed over two days this Friday and Saturday. The final races will be the star studded sweepstakes races. Here is the preview of the two sweepstake races.
Girls
Several nationally ranked girls are schedule to compete at the Bob Day Sweepstakes. Madeline Lane of Hopkinton of New Hampshire ran 10:10 in the 3200 last spring and an NXN qualifier last fall. Union Catholic of New Jersey is the number one ranked team according to DyeStat and Cayleigh Kaiser and Harper Telesca will be in the front pack for Union Catholic. Avery Barton of Ogden is the top returner from last year’s Bob Day Sweepstakes. Alyssa Gutierrez of St Francis will lead a strong team into the sweepstakes. Gutierrez is one of the top returners from last year’s California State Meet.
Brynn Davenport of Crater won the Oregon State Meet in the 3000 in 9:41 and she leads a strong Crater team. Gioia Coudreit of Galena is the 5A Nevada 800, 1600 and 3200 meter champion. Isabella Ruiz of Ontario continues her rapid improvement and won the competitive PR City three weeks ago. Kamilah Salim of West Torrance won the NON steeplechase championship last June and finished 12th last year in the Bob Day Sweepstakes. Reese Holley of JSerra leads a powerful team that won the team sweepstakes in 2025. Farah Allen of Branson ran 17:17 last fall at Woodbridge Park during the State Meet. Alyssa Gutierrez of St Francis also ran 17:17 on the course at the State Meet.
Buchanan is perennial NXN qualifier and is ranked fourth in the nation according to DyeStat. JSerra is another California school that annually makes it to NXN and won the sweepstakes race last year. Union Catholic of New Jersey is currently ranked #1 in the US by DyeStat. They will be racing without their star Paige Sheppard who is recovering from a summer of racing. St Francis of Sacramento returns all of their runners from last year’s state team and have a few transfers to add to their depth. DyeStat has the Troubies ranked #5. Crater girls have one of their strongest teams in the school history and DyeStat recognizes that with their #10 ranking. Boulder of Colorado has won the prestigious Liberty Bell Invitational and is ranked at #11 with DyeStat. Mira Costa qualified last year for NXN and DyeStat has them ranked #20 nationally.
Boys
Abdi Hassan of Northfield is one of the top juniors in the US and came close to breaking four minutes in the indoor and outdoor mile last spring. Ruel Newberry of Denton Guyer of Texas is also an outstanding junior who finished 11th at NXN back in December. Garrett Faught of Crater is another athletes from the deep junior class and finished 24th at NXN. Kai Gutierrez of Southlake Carroll will lead the strong program to the Doug Speck Sweepstakes. Gutierrez ran 8:56 in the 3200 last spring. Aidan Antonio of the host school Woodbridge is the top returner from last year’s sweepstakes race and qualified individually for NXN. Blake Bay of Fresno Christian finished 16th at the Brooks XC Championship last fall and looks to be a top contender at Woodbridge.
Another strong junior, Mario Montoya of Redondo Union broke the fifteen minutes barrier at Woodward Park in Fresno as a sophomore. Jaxon Northcutt of Mt Carmel of the San Diego Section ran 8:55 last spring and finished fifth in the California State Meet 3200. Cooper Stream of Vacaville is the fastest returner from the California Cross Country State Meet with a division 2 win of 14:48. Carson Stafford of Riverton (UT) moved from Tahoma High School of Washington and ran 8:57 in the 3200. He is one of the super juniors running at Woodbridge. Michael Scarince of South Pasadena is the top California in the 3200 with his 8:53 time. Wyatt Carr leads a string Coeur d’Alene squad and ran 8:57 at Arcadia in April. San Clemente is one of the stronger teams in the US thanks to Mattheus Dos Santos, who ran 4:11 in the 1600 last spring, and Yohan Anderson, who ran 4:15 in the 1600. Adrian Cantu of Saugus broke 15 minutes on the Woodward Park course last year and will contend.
DyeStat came out with their top forty boys teams recently and the Doug Speck Sweepstakes is loaded with top teams. Southlake Carroll of Texas makes annual trips to NXN and will be at Woodbridge on Saturday night. Crater travels south with their number five DyeStat ranking with a team full of returners and a transfer from Nevada. Coeur d’Alene of Idaho was one of the top teams in the US last year until the flu bug hit them at NXR. They will bounce back at Woodbridge. San Clemente returns their top two scorers from last year that qualified for NXN. The host school Woodbridge enters their DyeStat ranked 14th in the nation according to DyeStat. Riverton of Utah is ranked #16 and are bolstered by transfer Carson Stafford.

Alderbrook Golf Course - Tillamook, OR
Annual Mook Invitational will be on the fast course at Alderbrook Golf Course on Saturday. Teams from the Northwest and Colorado will be racing on Saturday. Raegan McRae of Cheyenne Mountain is the defending 4A Colorado state champion and won the Joe Vigil Invitational last week. Aubrey Wilems of Eastlake is the defending 4A Washington Cross Country champion and opened the season with a victory in the junior race at the KingCo Class Races. Callie Orcutt of West Valley of Yakima had an impressive spring running 2:10 in the 800 and 4:55 in the 1600. Claire Horton of Corbett won the Gresham Invitational two weeks ago. Katherine Kessi, a freshman, won the the Oregon City Invitational last week and Tigard’s Sophia Service finished fourth at Oregon City. Cassidy Smart of Philomath won the Opener to start the season and won the Oregon 4A state championship last November. Molly Schoolmeester of Banks finished fourth at the OSAA 3A/2A/1A State Meet and finished second at last week’s Ash Creek Invitational. Freshman Quinn Hanley of Jesuit ran 4:46 in the 1500 as an eighth grader and freshman Adalyn Bello of Eagle (ID) won the Caldwell Invitational two weeks ago.
Last year at the Mook, Jesuit showed their depth and plan to do it again with junior stars Jaciah Lavier and Brady Lukasiewicz leading the Crusaders. George Lora of Ida B Wells opened the season winning the junior race and Felix Snyder of Franklin won the senior race at the Great Evening Meet. Oliver Zimmerman of Cedar Park Christian ran 8:56 in the 3200 last spring as a sophomore and will contend on the boy’s race. Jonathan Barnhart of Timberlake leads his team from Idaho and finished fourth at the 2025 Idaho 4A State Meet.
