The two-day Woodbridge Invitational begins on Friday evening and culminates with the girls and boys sweepstakes races on Saturday night. Here are some of the west coast athletes and teams to look for on Saturday night's sweepstake races.


Girls Sweepstakes

Millie Bayles of Trabuco Hills

On the team side, Buchanan (CA), JSerra (CA), Trabuco Hills (CA) and St. Francis (SJC - CA) girls are looking to represent the west coast. Individually, Chiara Dailey of La Jolla (CA) finished second last year at Woodbridge and is the top returner. Jaelyn Williams of Eastlake (CA), Braelyn Combe of Santiago-Corona (CA), Summer Wilson of Irvine (CA), Millie Bayles of Trabuco Hills (CA), Charlotte Hopkins of Arcadia (CA), the Buchanan trio of Brooklyn Buckley, Molly Sundgren and Gaby Gutierrez, Maddie Carney of Caldera (OR), Isabella Ramirez of Bullard (CA) and Amaya Bharadwaj of Palo Alto (CA) will compete in the girl's sweepstakes on Saturday.


Boys Sweepstakes

Can Jesuit (CA) boys break Herriman's (UT) three year Woodbridge sweepstakes winning streak? Other west coast schools to watch will be Beckman (CA), Matilda Torres (CA) and San Clemente (CA). Maximo Zavaleta of MLK (CA) is the top west coast returner as he finished seventh last year in the sweepstakes race. Other individuals include Jesuit stars Isaac Abbott, Kyle Jakary and Drake Hoferer, the double duo from Matilda Torres (CA) Hunter Hannah and Benjamin Hernandez, Noel Huato of Del Oro (CA), hometown favorite Aidan Antonio of Woodbridge, Ashenafi McKinnis of North Eugene (OR) and Jace DeLedonne of Riverside Poly (CA).

Farmers Invitational - September 20

Athletes in the North Coast Section of CIF get a chance to race in the newly improved course at Hayward High School. Later in November, Hayward High School will host the CIF sectional championships. In the girls varsity race, Alice McCarty of Newark Memorial, Chloe Leduc of Oakland Tech and Lily Yang of Lynbrook should shine. In the boy's race, Kenji Kawabata of Newark Memorial, Ian Skarbinski of College Preparatory, Anish Gopisetty and Grant Davila of Washington should be in the front pack.

Teams from Washington and Oregon meet on the Oregon Coast on Saturday. In the girl's elite race, Sehome (WA), Jesuit (OR), Issaquah (WA), Sherwood (OR) and Mercer Island headline the team race. Individual race will highlight Sophia Rodriguez of Mercer Island, Lil Desler of Sehome, Ellery Lincoln of Lincoln and Nelida Dalgas of North Salem.

The boy's team race will feature Jesuit (OR) boys, ranked #3 in the latest DyeStat team ranking, Lincoln (OR), Issaquah (WA), Mercer Island (WA) and Sehome (WA). Some of the top individuals to watch are Kellen Williams and Matthew Wroblewski of Jesuit, Kai Jensen of Cleveland, Bodie Thomas of Mercer Island, Dylan Hill of Sehome and Paul Hretcanu of Tigard.

Fort Steilacoom Invitational - September 20

An early season 5000 meter test will be competed at Fort Steilacoom in Washington. The girl's race has a pair of ninth graders making an early season splash. Jaycee Jenkins of Kamiakin and Lucy Fraser of Skyline are the freshman phenoms racing on Saturday. Other athletes of note include Latham West of Bonney Lake, Eleanor Wyatt of West Linn (OR), Sydney Kosa of Olympia and Lejla Carlsson of Gig Harbor.

Like the varsity gold race, a freshman leads the field with Quenton Lanese of Olympia enters with the fastest time so far this season. Other athletes looking to compete with Quenton include Leo Brown of West Linn (OR), Mana Voss of Central Kitsap, Kian Compton of Eisenhower, Gavin McKeegan of Gig Harbor and Henry Herb of Seattle Prep.
