Sound Running hosts the The Ten meet Saturday at JSerra High School with professional athletes racing in the 1500 and 10,000 meters. Athletes are hoping for the world standard in the 10,000 and collegiate athletes looking for the NCAA standard. The meet also hosts an excellent high school meet. Here is a preview of the high school races:
800 Meters

A number of boys have the chance to run in the low 1:50s in the 800. Mattheus Dos Santos of San Clemente ran 1:52.62 in 2025 and qualified with his team at NXN last fall. Jack Burnett of JSerra looks to defend his home turf at JSerra and has a personal best of 1:53.37 run last weekend at the Meet of Champions. Tyler Halvorsen of West Ranch has a personal best of 1:53.74 run last year at CIF Masters. Ryan Burger of Mira Costa ran 1:53.61 earlier this season. Hunter Gillespie of Chino Hills has run 1:53.90 in his only 800 in 2026.

Chloe Elbaz of JSerra has run 2:10.58 last week at the Hi-Racer Meet of Champions and ran 2:09.00 personal best at last year's California State Meet. Braelyn Combe of Santiago (Corona) will run her first 800 of the season. Combe ran 2:09.59 last year at The Ten and won the California State Meet in the 1600 in a time of 4:35.64 and has run the fastest 3200 in the nation in 2026. Monte Vista's Ava Padilla travels south to The Ten and ran 2:09.78 in California State Meet as a freshman. Alexandra Schwartmann of Immanuel ran 2:11.23 at the California State Meet and is also known to have 200 meter speed (24.65) and 400 meter speed (55.99). Carol Dye of Santa Margarita is racing for the first time this season and had a successful cross country season last fall with her third place finish at the division 3 State XC Meet.
3200 Meters

The boy's 3200 has a number of stars like Maximo Zavaleta of MLK who has an 8:52.51 personal best and qualified for NXN as an individual in December. Aidan Antonio of Woodbridge also qualified as an individual for NXN in December and has a 9:05.69 personal best in the 3200. Michael Scarince of South Pasadena has already run 9:09.78 at Redondo Track Festival a few weeks ago. Marco Franco of Great Oak ran 1:52.74 last week at the Meet of Champions and can be a factor if he is in the front pack at the end of race.

Gweneth Williams of El Toro finished third at last year's The Ten 3200 in a time of 10:46.86. Sedona Sweginnis of San Clemente ran 10:46.45 last week and will be a factor. Oliver Bollenbach of Poly (Riverside) and Molly Hoxie of La Serna have personal bests of under eleven in the 3200. Great Oak athletes Scarlett Cook and Madison Bussey hope to dip under 11:00 on Saturday night.
1600 Meters

Maximo Zavaleta of MLK is listed in both the 3200 and 1600 and has run 4:08.93 this season in the 1600. Cooper Stream of Vacaville has run 4:10.66 this season and won the division 2 California State Meet and qualified for NXN. Jace Deledonne of Poly (Riverside) has run 4:11.03 this season and can help push the pace to break 4:10. Krish Desai of Mira Costa ran 4:10.45 at The Ten last year and has NXN experience. Mario Montoya of Redondo Union also has NXN experience and has the Woodbridge Park course record for the sophomore grade. He broke 9:00 in the 3200 last weekend at MOC.

Khloe DeLaTorre of Vacaville and Charlotte Hopkins of Arcadia both ran under 4:50 last season and will be looking to come home as The Ten 1600 meter champion. Maya Pawlowicz and Reese Holley of JSerra will be running for the home track pride and ran at NXN last fall. Holley has a personal best of 4:49.32 and Pawlowicz ran 4:56.06 last week at MOC. Lucia Pearson of Saugus ran 4:55.40 at the Meet of Champions last weekend. Gweneth Williams of El Toro and Isabella Wroblewski of Yorba Linda are doing the 1600 and 800 meter double. Ruah Franzmann-Simmert of Tri-State Home School ran 4:55.98 for a full mile at last week's New Balance Indoor Meet.
