Sound Running hosts their annual summer race called the Sunset Tour at Occidental College on Saturday night. The meet can be viewed on Flotrack. Here are athletes to watch:


800 Meters

Abraham Alvarado
Abraham Alvarado

Abraham Alvarado is having an excellent season and set the Mexican national record in the mile last week at the Prefontaine Classic with his 3:52.30 time. He ran 1:44.59 at the last Sound Running event called LA Track Fest. Matthew Erickson has a personal best time of 1:44.49 which he ran last year at the Sunset Tour. He won the NCAA Indoor title at Oregon in 2025. Tinoda Matsatsa of Georgetown is the school record holder in a time of 1:44.75 and the Big East Champion.

Emily Mackay has been showing her range by winning the 5000 at the Portland Track Festival last month and ran a personal best in the mile last week at the Prefontaine Classic in a time of 4:18.18. Mackay has a PB in the 800 of 1:57.87. Gabija Galvydyte ran 1:57.96 in the semi-finals of the 2025 World Championship representing Lithuania. Galvydyte also set a PB in the mile last week in the mile at Prefontaine (and a national record too) in a time of 4:21.43. Raevyn Rogers finished fifth at last week's Prefontaine Classic 800 meter race, won the bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympic Games and has a personal best time of 1:56.81.


3000 Steeplechase

Isaac Updike has the fastest seed time in the steeplechase with his 8:10.59 time run in Belgium in 2025. Anthony Rotich has a 8:13.74 PB in the steeple and won three NCAA steeplechase titles at UTEP. Bernard Keter ran his PB of 8:16.11 last summer in Belgium and recently won the steeplechase at the Portland Track Festival. James Corrigan of BYU ran his 8:13.74 steeplechase personal best at a race in Philadelphia to qualify by time for the Olympics in 2024. He won the 2025 NCAA steeplechase championship.

Courtney Frerichs

Courtney Frerichs has the American National Record in the steeplechase in a time of 8:57.77 set at the 2021 Prefontaine Classic and will race the steeple for the first time in 2026 at the Sunset Tour. Maddie Boreman ran her PB of 9:21.98 at the USATF Los Angeles Grand Prix in June. Logan Jolly also ran her personal best of 9:26.23 at the USATF Los Angeles Grand Prix.


1500 Meters

Brian Masai ran his best time in the 1500 in a time of 3:33.17 at the University of Arkansas in May. John Reniewicki ran his personal best of 3:33.58 in the 1500 last year at the Sunset Tour. Damian Garcia of Chico State will represent the NCAA Division 2 level and has a PB of 3:35.61. Mario Garcia Romo of Spain has the best seed time of 3:29.18. Carter Cutting of BYU won the NCAA indoor championship in the mile and ran the mile at 3:53.07 last week at the Prefontaine Classic.

Eleanor Fulton ran 4:03.03 in the 1500 in 2022 and recently ran 2:02.98 to win the Portland Twilight. Teagan Schein-Becker of Brooks Beasts is known as an 800-meter racer and moves up to the 1500 on Saturuday. Mia Barnett of Swoosh TC has a personal best of 4:05.39 and Kayley DeLay is running her first 1500 of the year after running 4:04.99 last summer in Germany.


5000 Meters

Sam Atkin of Great Britain has the top seed time in the 5000 of 12:54.66 and will open his 2026 season at the Sunset Tour. Sean McCorty has a PB of 13:02.13 and is another top seed in the men's 5000. Liam Murphy ran 13:12.02 at Payton Jordan in 2026 and set won the Friday evening mile at the Prefontaine Classic in a time of 3:50.49. Dylan Jacobs ran 13:09.09 at the Sound Running Track Fest in May.

Rosina Machu
Rosina Machu

Wuga He of China ran 14:56.62 at the LA Track Festival in May will help lead athletes to the fifteen minute barrier. Vanessa Fraser ran 14:48.51 in 2020 at the Boston University indoor facility. Chloe Scrimbeour ran 15:05.40 at the Bryan Clay Invitational in 2025. Rosina Machu ran 15:21.19 indoors at Boston University in December and competed for Gonzaga.
