Aloha High School hosts the 46th annual Nike Portland XC meet at Blue Lake Regional Park on Friday. Here are teams and individuals to watch in the final races of the day, the Jim Danner Championships.
Girls

Heritage High School of Colorado arrives in Portland with a DyeStat preseason #5 ranking and Boise of Idaho is ranked #36 in the girl's DyeStat preseason ranking. Other girl's teams to watch are Tesoro (CA), Mira Costa (CA), Summit (OR) and Sunset (OR).

Individually Emry Schwalm of Heritage (CO) won the Liberty Bell Invitational in an impressive altitude 5000 meter time of 16:43.2 two weeks ago. Maddie Carney of Caldera (OR) won Nike Portland XC last year. Maddie is the second person in her family to win the Jim Danner award as her mother Carrie won the race in 1991 for Mountain View (OR). Brynn Davenport of Crater (OR) and Cricket Phipps of North Eugene (OR) won individual races last week at the Woodbridge Cross Country Classic. Elyse Henriksen of Lincoln (OR) won the senior race at the Night Meet, Eleanor Wyatt of West Linn (OR) won the sophomore race at the Night Meet and Lauren Gerlach of Tualatin (OR) won the Meriwether Cross Country Classic. Boise (ID) has a strong due of Lucy Spiess and Audrey Orme and Sunset (OR) has a solid duo of Elissa Schaeffer and Naomi Cesar.
Boys

The Jim Danner boy's race closes out the meet with several strong teams including Matilda Torres (CA), Redondo Union (CA), Crater (OR) and Clovis North (CA) who all received DyeStat top 40 nods. Mira Costa (CA), Summit (OR), Boise (ID) and Mountain View (ID) are other contenders.

The boy's race is deep with a number of DyeStat preseason athletes ranked in the top 100. Malachi Shoenherr of Sheldon (OR) won the Oregon 6A division at the Oregon State Meet. Conor Lott of Clovis North (CA) won the D1 race at the 2024 California Cross Country State Meet. Other top 100 athletes include Griffin Mazeski of Valor Christian (CO), Isaac Benjamin of South Kitsap (WA). Ashenafi McKinnis of North Eugene (OR), Dylan Rowell of Anacortes (WA). Ty Cirino of Central (OR), Hanna Hunter and Benjamin Fernandez of Matilda Torres. There are plenty of other athletes who have the potential to place ahead of the athletes mentioned in the DyeStat top 100 including an impressive start of the season for Jayden Warner of Warrenton (OR). Warner won the rated race at the Woodbridge Cross Country Classic.
Jim Danner Championships in the girls and boys division will be an exciting way to end the meet.
