Mt SAC hosts the 77th annual high school meet on Friday and Saturday. California high school cross country is divided into five divisions with the smaller schools (D3 to D5) racing on Friday at Mt SAC and larger schools on Saturday (D1 & D2). Here is preview of the sweepstakes races on both days.


D3-5 Sweepstakes Friday

The girls' team sweepstakes includes Sage Creek (#3 in D4 - all rankings are California state rankings from October 15), Santa Margarita (#2 in D2) and San Francisco University (#3 in D5). Individually, Chiara Dailey of La Jolla, who finished second at Woodbridge Invitational in the sweepstakes race, leads the field with Carol Dye and Alahna Thomas of Santa Margarita, Isabella Wroblewski of Yorba Linda, Taylor Biggambler of Flagstaff (AZ) and Isabel Gladden of Sage Creek being other top runners.

The boys' team sweepstakes has teams aiming to make the podium in the next month’s state meet like Viewpoint (#1 in D5), West Torrance (#2 in D3), West Ranch (#5 in D3), San Francisco University (#3 in D5), Sage Creek (#4 in D4) and Palos Verdes (#4 in D4). Individual stars in the team sweepstakes include Olly O’Connor of Viewpoint, who won Friday’s Clovis Invitational Championship race, Yohanes van Meerten of Flagstaff (AZ), who finished second at the Desert Twilight and Footlocker finalist in 2024, Blake Sigworth of Palos Verdes, Emmanuel Lopez of Servite and Nathan Wilbur of Cathedral Catholic.

In the individual girls’ sweepstakes race, athletes to watch include Becky Osorio of West Covina, Ayanna Hickey of The Bishop’s School, who was a Footlocker finalist last fall, Isabella Ramos of Point Loma, who won the Asics Cool Breeze Invitational, Jenna Murray of Moorpark, Ari Llorens of Francis Parker, who won the Sundevil Invitational a few weeks ago, Amelia Sarkisian of Brentwood, who won the D5 California State Meet in 2024, Lena Llamas of Burach Colony, Montserrat Santillan Silva, Hannah Nouse of Laguna Hills and Gretchen Yakaitis of Carondelet, who ran the third fastest time at Nike Portland XC in September.

In the individual sweepstakes, some of the top athletes include Andres Lomeli of Kimball, who won the Kim Duyst Invitational, Toren Habbestad of Yorba Linda and Maury Young of Ocean View.


D2-D1 Sweepstakes Saturday

The girls' team sweepstakes race will have Mt Carmel (#1 in D2), Trabuco HIlls (#5 in D1), Mira Costa (#3 in D1), Murrieta Valley (#5 in D2) and St Francis of Mountain View (#3 in D2). Some individual stars in the team sweepstakes race include Millie Bayles and Anna Desomeau of Trabuco Hills, Brinley Pickett of St Francis, Elizabeth Jacklin of MLK, who won the D1 race at the Clovis Invitational, Olivia Campos, winner of the Sundevil Invitational in early October, and Isabel Ruiz of Mt Carmel and Arielle Avila of Murrieta Valley.

The boys’ team sweepstakes has several strong teams like Beckman (#1 in D1), San Clemente (#2 in D1), Mira Costa (#3 in D1), Redondo Union (#4 in D1) and Crescenta Valley (#5 in D1). Individuals that will shine include Yohan Anderson and Mattheus Dos Santos of San Clemente, Mario Montoya, who as a sophomore broke 15 minutes at state course Woodbridge Park and Matteo Sanchez of Redondo Union, Sebastian Bello of Trabuco Hills, Mason Nguyen of Beckman, Max Zavaleta of MLK, who finished second at the large school championship race at the Clovis Invitational, Thomas Barrera of La Serna, Jason Northcutt of Mt Carmel, who set the course record at the Sundevil Invitational and Cooper Castleberry of Poway.

In the girls’ individual sweepstakes, Santiago-Corona (#2 in D1) will lead the field and have individual stars Braelyn Combe, who won the team sweepstakes race at Mt SAC last year, and Addyson Johns. Lara Blanco Tossetto of University Irvine and Charlotte Hopkins will be in the race to give the Santiago girls a challenge.

Boys to watch in Saturday’s individual sweepstakes includes Asics Cool Breeze Invitational champion Jace Deledonne of Poly of Riverside, Evan Nahuat of Valley View, Dean Odom of San Marcos, Michael Ortega of Ontario, who won the Division 3 race at the Clovis Invitational and Albert Jacinto of Chaffey.
