Mark Morris Summer Practice

We met up with the Monarchs of Mark Morris for their summer practice. Mark Morris High School is located in Long View, Washington which is about an hour north of Portland. Mark Morris competes in the 2A division in Washington and has a athletic rivalry with RA Long of Long View.

The team met at the school for exercises and then ran to nearby Lake Sacajawea for an easy run. The girls had a short run as they planned to run at Gearhart, Oregon on the Oregon Coast later that day.

How often does the team practice in the summer?

I hold summer workouts 7-9 a.m. every weekday for anyone who wants to come.

What are some highlights of the summer for Mark Morris?

This weekend I am taking the veteran girls to the Oregon coast for a change of running scenery. The girls are returning league and district champions (8th at the 2A Washington State meet). We lost only one varsity girl to graduation, so we’re looking to improve on our state finish.

What are highlights of the cross country season?

This fall we will race at Nike Portland, The Mook Invitational (Tillamook Oregon), HOKA John Payne, and Meriwether Classic.

Chocolate Milk is a thing with the team, particularly after the Friday long run. We start the season every year with the Mark Morris Monarch Midnight Milk Mile (like the beer mile but with chocolate milk).
