JSerra Summer Practice

We met with JSerra at their track for a workout. The team had just returned from their team camp in Flagstaff and with school starting next week, the JV athletes had the week off and the varsity completed the workout. JSerra is a Catholic high school located in San Juan Capistrano, California. The track used for today's workout has been used for The Ten meet in the month of March where athletes attempt to make the Olympic standard in the 10,000 meters (hence the name The Ten). Here is the link to the photo gallery of the pros at The Ten from last March. The Ten also had high school races and here is the LINK to March's high school gallery.

Coach Chase Frazier with the help of his assistants organized the track workout on the warm August morning. Here is information about the program:

During the summer season, how often does the team practice?

We practice meeting at JSerra four days a week and meet at various trails around OC the other two days for a total of six days per week.

What are some special summer activities?

Our team goes to altitude camp every year. This year we did Flagstaff, Arizona. We get a lot of good training and team bonding. We just got back from spending a week in Flagstaff, AZ at training camp.  It's one of the best places in the world to train as distance runners and we look forward to camp every year

How do you build team culture?

Our team is very close. We support each other during workouts and we hang out a lot after practice. Once a week we’ll go to our assistant coach’s house and have dinner. Each year, and each team, develops its own identity and team culture centered around our core beliefs as a program and a school.  We have a lot of talented runners on our team, and we are so lucky to have the opportunity each day to be surrounded by so many committed athletes working together to accomplish the same goals.  We build team culture by encouraging new runners to buy into our team and something bigger than themselves.

What are some events that the team is looking forward to in the fall season?

Our team loves Woodbridge, and we are hoping to do well in state again this year! We are looking forward to the entire season, each course will present its own set of challenges and look forward to them all.
