Clovis High School hosts the two-day Clovis Invitational and we will preview the championship races on Friday and Saturday.
Friday

Friday's championship races include schools with attendance under 1799 students. Farah Allen of Branson and Carol Dye of Santa Margarita are some of the top runners in Friday’s girls championship. Farah ran 17:18 on the Woodward Park course last year at the state meet and Carol ran 17:22 at the state meet. Gioia Coudriet of Galena (NV) ran 16:29 at Woodbridge Invitational in September. Tayrn Coulston of Santa Margarita ran 16:33 at Woodbridge and will be a great 1-2 punch for Santa Margarita. Jenna Murray of Moorpark is another runner who will be one to watch thanks to her 16:40 time at the Woodbridge Classic.

Oak Park girls looks like one of the strongest squads in the team battle. They ran an impressive 88:06 team time at Woodbridge. Santa Margarita finished second in this race last year and return their top runners. San Francisco University finished third at the D5 race last year in the state meet. Miramonte is an improving team that will compete for the team title.

Henry Hauser of Menlo Schools is one of three athletes who nearly broke 14 minutes at Woodbridge with his 14:02 time. Sterling White of Oaks Christian is having a strong sophomore season which includes his 14:04 time at Woodbridge. Connor Bilodeau of Tahoe/Truckee ran 14:08 at Woodbridge. Other athletes to watch Friday include David Coisson of Galena (NV), Viggo Bortolin of Foothill Technology and Teal Greene of Pacifica Christian who all ran under 14:20 at Woodbridge.
Some of the top teams in Friday’s championship race increased their stature thanks to impressive performances at Woodbridge. Galena of Nevada finished 11th at the sweepstakes race at Woodbridge. West Torrance finished 16th, San Francisco University placed 17th and Oak Park boys were 23rd in the sweepstakes race at Woodbridge. Foothill Technology finished fifth place in the rated race.
Saturday

The top runners in the girl’s championship race will have a rematch from the Woodbridge Invitational. Brynn Davenport and Adley Damon of Crater finished second and fourth at Woodbridge and we should see them team up on the top pack at Clovis. Addyson Johns of Santiago (Corona) placed third at Clovis and hopes to be with the Crater athletes like at Woodbridge. Alyssa Gutierrez of St Francis finished seventh at Woodbridge and two weeks won ago at Nike Portland XC. The next pack of runners should include Isabella Ruiz of Ontario, Kaylie O’Connell of Monte Vista, Gelila Hailu of Leigh, Gweneth Williams of El Toro, Mia Kim of San Clemente and Fernanda Cortes of Golden Valley.

Thanks to their victory at the Woodbridge Classic, Crater girls are ranked second in DyeStat’s recent survey. St Francis of Sacramento is ranked tenth in last week’s DyeStat’s national rankings. Buchanan is close by with their 12th place ranking with DyeStat and knows the Woodward Park course well. San Clemente, Santiago (Corona) and El Toro were not far behind St Francis and Buchanan at Woodbridge.

Garrett Faught of Crater, Aidan Antonio of Woodbridge and Blake Bay of Fresno Christian all ran well under 14 minutes at Woodbridge and should lead the pack. Yohan Anderson of San Clemente, Eli Zasloff of Newbury Park, Dresden Taylor of Trabuco Hills, Mario Montoya of Redondo Union, William Thompson of La Serna, Matthew Ogilvie of Jesuit and Yuval Goldberg of Mountain View all ran with four seconds of each other at Woodbridge. Cooper Stream of Vacaville and Elias Thronson broke the 15 minute barrier at the Woodward Park course last year and look to improve on their times.

Several schools received the Woodbridge Invitational bump on DyeStat’s recent rankings. Crater boys are ranked 10th, Mountain View is at 16, Newbury Park is ranked 24th and Granada is ranked 29th. All four schools finished in the top ten at the sweepstakes race at Woodbridge.
