Todd Tokubo visited with American High School of Fremont, CA. American is located in the East Bay of Bay Area. The Eagles of American are coached by Renee Zamora and assisted by twin brother Julian Alfonso. Their practice was at Quarry Lakes in Fremont. Assistant Coach Julian talked with Todd about the American program.

During the summer season, how often does the team practice?
For our summer conditioning we host sessions every Monday-Friday in the evenings.

What are some special summer activities?
Some special summer activities we do is provide popsicles after a long run or running to an ice cream shop over in Niles.

How do you build team culture?
We build team culture by creating a friendly and positive environment. For us the main point of summer conditioning is to help anyone at any skill level get comfortable with running and with the help of our returning athletes I feel we are able to create an environment on where anyone can hop in and feel like they are a part of the group. It also helps we have a dedicated group of returners who will plan fun team bonding events to help the team get closer.

What are some events that the team is looking forward to in the fall season?
Our team has grown in size over the past few seasons so we would love to bring more teams this year to Mt. Sac. That was the highlight of last season and I feel that is the meet most of our athletes are looking forward to the most. We also want to get a group this year to go to the Clovis invitational. I can’t remember the last time American has been to that invitational so it would be great to add that this year.
