This past weekend we went up to Seattle for the UW Preview and Mile City at the Dempsey Indoor facility at the University of Washington. Here is a recap of the distance events.

UW Preview
The top distance highlights include the 600 meters race with Roisin Willis of Stanford winning in the second fastest collegiate indoor time of 1:25.74. Chase Walter of Cal Poly SLO won the 600 in a world leading time for 2025 at 1:16.14. Washington freshman Bodi Ligons, who competed last year for Cathedral High School in Los Angeles, ran 1:16.48 and set a new Washington school record at that distance.
Claire Yerby of Washington ran the ninth fastest 800-meter time in school history with her 2:06.45. Kyle Reinheimer of Washington won the 800 meters in a school record time of 1:46.45 and teammate Justin Toole came in second at 1:46.59 which makes him number three all-time in the 800 at Washington.
Sinclaire Johnson of Nike set a facility record in the 1000-meters in a time of 2:35.11 and Aidan McCarthy of Cal Poly SLO won the men’s 1000 in a school record of 2:19.68.

In the women’s 3000, Melissa Tanaka won in a time of 9:05.28 and Sophia Rodriguez of Mercer Island ran the fastest 3000 meter high school time in this young season with her 9:22.11 finish.

In the men’s 3000, Thomas Boyden of Stanford won in a time of 7:41.85 and teammate Cole Sprout finished second in a time of 7:45.24. Their times places them 7th and 8th on the NCAA indoor list.
Tayvon Kitchen of Crater won his heat of the 3000 in a time of 8:02.02 for the fifth fastest indoor high school 3000 of all-time and Owen Powell of Mercer Island’s time of 8:04.83 makes him sixth all time in the indoor 3000 meter.

Mile City
There were almost fifty heats of mile races on Saturday!

Gabija Galvydyte, who ran for Oklahoma State and is now with the Bowerman Track Club, won the Mile City in a time of 4:27.96. Chloe Huyler of Lakeridge ran 4:46.83 and has the number one high school time of the season and Victoria Rodriguez of Mercer Island ran 4:49.61 for the third fastest high school time of the season.

Nathan Green of Washington led nine Washington athletes to break four minutes in the mile. HIs time of 3:50.74 is now the school and facility record. Josiah Tostenton of Crater ran the number one high school time of the season. HIs teammate Tayvon Kitchen ran 4:04.96 to run the second fastest time of the young high school season.

In the open college portion of Mile City, Lauren Harper of San Diego State posted the fastest time of 4:55.33 and the fastest high school athlete was ninth grader Ciana Johnson of Ballard in a time of 5:01.76.

Colin Peattie of Santa Clara ran the fastest time in the open Mile City division in a time of 4:08.39. Mason Morical of Caldera finished as the top high school athlete in the open division in a time of 4:14.01.
