This Weekend in Track: March 4-6th
High school track season has officially started in all three west coast states this week, but California is where all the attention will be this weekend as Oregon and Washington don’t have any meets until the middle of March. As college teams prepare for the NCAA Indoor Championships, it’ll be a pretty slow weekend in college track meet coverage, with most other schools participating in outdoor season openers. On the pro side of things, the much anticipated Sound Running event is set to bring in lots of fast times. Here is what to watch out for:

The Ten: 3/6
JSerra High School - San Juan Capistrano, CA
Where to watch: PPV viewing for $5.99
Sound Running has organized their second annual 10k event for distance runners to get their US and World qualifying standards in the 10,000 meters early on in the season. Last year The Ten turned out to be the fastest 10,000 in the western hemisphere. All races will be paced by the wavelight technology that was featured at the Prefontaine Classic this past summer. Check out the stacked fields here. Originally set for March 5th, races are set to start at 7:00 pm PST on Sunday March 6th now due to weather.

Mt. Carmel Field & Distance Meet: 3/5
Mt. Carmel High School - San Diego, CA
Many of the San Diego section teams and teams from the Southern Section compete in the annual event at Mt. Carmel High School. Santa Fe Christian is scheduled to attend which features California DV Champion Revere Schmidt. Francis Parker’s Kenan Pala could make his season debut after winning DV at the state meet and having a strong showing at the Eastbay meet in his hometown of San Diego. Strong distance programs Great Oak, La Costa Canyon and Vista Murrieta will be competing.

Don Green Invitational: 3/4-3/5
Moorpark High School - Moorpark, CA
Moorpark High School is hosting a two day meet Friday and Saturday. Headlining the 1600 meter race is Thousand Oaks Atticus Hall for the boys and Payton Godsay of Oaks Christian for the girls. The top seed in the girls 3200 is Isabella Duarte of Saugus and Jonah Barzerkanian of Royal leads the boy’s 3200.

Sac State HS Classic: 3/5
Hornet Stadium - Sacramento, CA
Many of the Sacramento area schools and a sprinkling of Bay Area schools will be on the Sacramento State Campus on Saturday. Last week at the Glenn Poole Invitational, Kyle Towne of Sheldon and Ethan Smith of Folsom battled to the finish line. Look for them to compete once more this weekend. Kayla Towne of St. Francis will be challenged by teammate Tatiana Cornejo in the 800. Cross country state champion Anna McNatt of McClatchy will be challenged by Caitrin Joaquin of St. Francis in the girls 1600 and Braden King of Jesuit looks to lead the boys 1600. Daniel Winter of St. Mary’s will be the favorite in the 3200 and Carly Foster of Granite Bay will have four Oak Ridge runners on her heels.
