This Weekend in Track: March 18-19th

Track meets are officially underway for high schoolers on the west coast! Here are some meets to look out for this weekend.

Dublin High School hosts the massive Distance Fiesta (43 heats of the boys 800!). Besides the distance relays, here are athletes to look for in the individual distance events. In the girls 800, Adeline Johnson of Branson comes in with the fastest time of 2:17 and Hanne Thomson of Montgomery, who won the D3 XC state title in November, has a 2:18 mark heading into the meet. Furious Clay of Crystal Springs enters the 800 with a time of 1:57 and Mateo Malko-Allen of St Mary's College High School should be close at 1:57. Hanne Thomson has the top seed time of 4:53 in the 1600 and Anna McNatt of McClatchy is next with a 4:57 time. Mateo Malko-Allen and Sean Morello of Albany are both entered in the 1600 with times of 4:17. Olivia Williams of Acalanes enters the 3200 with a time of 10:24 with Sophia Nordenholz of Albany (10:34) pushing the pace. Caden Carney of Tamalpais has the fastest seed time of 9:09 in the boys 3200, followed closely by Sean Morello (9:10) .

Arcadia Distance Challenge: 3/19

Saturday will be the inaugural Arcadia Distance Challenge. The meet features the 4 X 800, 4 X 1600 and DMR relays and the fastest teams in those events will be guaranteed a spot in the fastest heat at the Arcadia Invitational and the next three fastest times are get a spot at the Arcadia Invitational. Individual races also nab spots at the Arcadia Invitational as the winners will get to race in the fast heat and second through fifth fastest times will get spots into a heat at Arcadia

Emma Hadley of Canyon of Anaheim looks to be the class of the 800 Invitational field with a 2:11 seed time. In the boy's 800, Bryce Gilmore (1:55) of Sage Creek, Ethan Flores (1:56) of Canyon of Anaheim, Levi Taylor (1:56) of San Marcos, Dylan DeLoyola (1:57) of Santiago and Jack Slavin (1:57) of Martin Luther King will make for a great race. The girls invitational 1600 features Isabella Frisone (5:03) of Canyon of Anaheim and Ashlee Gallegos of JSerra who ran a 4:35 1500 in January. Looking at the invitational 1600 in the boys, University of Oregon recruit Rheindhardt Harrison of Nease HS in Florida ran a 4:01 mile indoors back in February and Christopher Caudillo (4:08) of Clovis travels from the Central Section. The girls 3200 invitational race features Mackenzie Rogers (10:39) of Poway and the boy's 3200 will have Tyler Kaan of Santiago who has a 4:15 1600 to his credit.

Oregon and Washington Track Meets:


Oregon and Washington track season started a few weeks ago with meets starting this week. Oregon is getting ready for spring break and schools had local dual meets and one notable invitational, Jim Barks Grizzly Open, on Thursday at McMinnville High School. Some larger Washington invitationals this weekend include in the Seattle area, theSeattle Academy Relays, Cardinal Relays and in central Washington the Papa Wells Invitational in Yakima.
