What? We are in October? Things will start getting serious in cross country.
Nike - 15th Annual Twilight XC Invitational - October 1
Marysville, WA at Cedarcrest Golf Course

One of the largest meets in Washington is held under the lights at Cedarcrest Golf Course north of Marysville, Washington. Many of the top Washington schools in the girl's race include 4A schools Eastlake and Skyline and top ranked 3A girls program Central Kitsap. Look for 2A schools of Anacortes and Sehome to be in the mix for the girl's race. Jesuit of Oregon heads up north as the DyeStat #12 team in the nation. Individually, Anna Callahan of Skyline finished second at last Saturday's Nike Portland XC Invitational. Jan Roos leads a strong Eastlake team. Tali Braester of Lincoln (Seattle), Sabrina Colbert of Franklin, Julia Couch of Auburn Riverside, Paige Gerrard of Snohomish, who won the division 2 race at Nike Portland XC last Saturday, Jessica Frydenlund of Anacortes, Kaia Szymczak of Sehome and Maura O'Scannlain of Jesuit will be some of the athletes to look for on Saturday.

One of the nation's top teams, Jesuit (DyeStat #6) of Oregon, headlines the meet at Twilight and they will get a chance to race some of the top teams in Washington including 4A #1 Eastlake. Other teams that have shown their strength are Mercer Island, Central Kitsap, Squalicum, Sehome and Anacortes. Jesuit duo of Gus Clevengar and Jacob Nenow will lead the field which will include Sehome's Zach Munson, Mercer Island's Owen Powell, who won the division 1 race at Saturday's Nike Portland XC, Eastlake's Ethan Pedersen and Noah Zahn, Inglemoor's Jacob Schutt and Caleb Wilcox of Steilicoom.

Champoeg Invitational - October 1
Champoeg State Park in Marion County, OR

Newberg hosts their annual meet at Champoeg State Park on Saturday. Some of the strong girl's teams in Saturday's field include Central Catholic, West Salem, Grant, Ida B Wells, Mountainside and Hood River Valley. Top individuals include Josie Fales of Ida B Wells, Zoe Rector, Mira Danish and Ella McGillis of Central Catholic, Amelia Campbell of Grant and Gitte Lonigan of West Salem.

In the boy's race, Central Catholic may be challenged by the West Salem boys who finished second at the Jim Danner Championship at Nike Portland XC. Ida B Wells, host school Newberg and Hood River Valley will be other teams of interest. Central Catholic's Wes Shipsey won the Meriwether CC Classic two weeks ago and is considered the favorite. Other challengers include Jack Meier and Brady Bliven of West Salem, Anthony and Zachary Giesch, Kai Mitchell-Reiss of Ida B Wells, and Charlie Black and Garrett Mackey of Central Catholic.

Artichoke Invitational - October 1
Half Moon Bay, CA

A large contingent of CIF North Central Coast and Central Coast Section teams will gather on Saturday for the annual Artichoke Invitational at Half Moon Bay, CA. Some of the strong girl's programs include St. Francis (Mountain View), St Mary's College and Castro Valley. Individuals to look for at the meet include Ashlyn Boothby of Scotts Valley, Katherine Lorenz and Tatum Olesen of Menlo-Atherton, Lauren Soobrian of Los Altos, who won the De La Salle Nike meet two weeks ago, and Anna Fawcett of St. Francis.

The boy's race will include outstanding teams like Santa Rosa, Menlo-Atherton and Scotts Valley. Athletes to watch are Mateo Malko-Allen of St. Mary's College, Aidan Doherty and Dylan Lanier of Menlo-Atherton and Jack Brownfield and Aiden Boothby of Scotts Valley.
