Updated: Jun 14, 2022

Oregon athletes returned from spring break and raced in an early season invitational at Lake Oswego. The first distance race was the girls 1500 and the Peters sisters of Lake Oswego High School were the stars. Junior Kate Peters set the pace for her freshman sister Ana with Kate finishing at 4:35 and Anna at 4:39. Senior Lauren Ayers of Tualatin ran a quality time of 4:50 and finished third. Senior Max Girardet of Central Catholic left the pack for a win at 4:08 despite a valiant effort by senior Parker Waugh of Barlow to reel in Max at the finish. Colin Friend of St Steph's Academy (4:11) and Thomas Huelskamp (4:13) of Sunset were the next finishers.

A consistent light rain started to fall during the 800. The weather did not deter a pair of sophomore girls from Central Catholic. Ella McGillis won the race in 2:19 and her teammate Zoe Rector followed in 2:24. Senior Henry Tierney of Valley Catholic ran a strong back stretch in the boy's 800 for a convincing win in 1:55. Junior Braydon Lee of Barlow (1:57) and senior Cole Noretto of Tualatin (1:57) finished second and third.

Kate and Ana Peters of Lake Oswego returned for the 3000 and had the same results as the 1500 with Kate winning in 9:56 and Anna finishing second in 9:58. Junior Paige Wiley of Sunset finished third in a time of 10:18. The boy's 3000 was a battle between three athletes: senior Wesley Shipsey of Central Catholic, senior Benjamin Balazs of Sunset and junior Aaron Lakeman of Tualatin. With 200 meters to go, all three were in position to win and with less than 100 meters to go Shipsey and Balazs were sprinting to the finish. Shipsey won in 8:29, Balazs second in 8:30 and Aaron Lakeman finished third and set a school record in 8:31.
